I started writing poetry on May 1st, 2019. I was in one of the library private rooms at my school, and for some reason I just had the urge to pull out my phone and write something. I was supposed to being doing calc homework in prep for AP tests but hey that’s besides the point. At the time I was reading the book Think and Grow Rich which caused me to start thinking about ideas. Yep it gave me ideas about ideas. That was the butterfly effect that started everything. From there, I listened to the album To Pimp a Butterfly which served as a catalyst for my thoughts. Essentially I had my personal renaissance as over time, I started to think more. I needed something to express these thoughts, to bring them out. And that’s where poetry comes in. From there I started writing more, just capturing everyday moments, moods. And here I am now, on July 3rd typing this. I plan to continue writing poetry. It’s in a way an island away from the world for me, a medium through which I can express myself without fear of judgement and form something beautiful. Or ugly for that matter. It’s all kinds of things. It makes me feel at peace and relaxed away from this world (not tryna get all spiritual).
